Growing up has always been difficult, but with their father gone and lack of money these four sisters make the best of things by loving and caring for each other as if it was all they had. Meg is the oldest of the sisters and the most beautiful. She is vain about it her beauty because her lack of material things the other girls have. Jo was the tomboy who felt like the man of the house after her dad left. She is the second oldest of the four sisters and has a temper that is hard for her to control. Beth is quiet and loves music especially playing the piano. Amy the youngest has blonde bouncing curls and wonderful spirit. As the girls learn and grow they all become wonderful "Little Women".
Meg is the oldest out of the four sisters. Meg is the most responible of the sisters and really helps her mom around the house. When Amy and Joe fight, Meg is the one who always protects Amy because she is the youngest. She is their motherly figure while Mrs. March is away. Meg helps keep the house in order and the girls minding their manners.

She feels to be beautiful you must have nice things and this is shown by her saying, "I wonder if I shall ever be happy enough to have real lace on my clothes and bows on my caps." By her saying this, she feels happiness is about material things. She discoveres in the end though that she has richness in family and love rather than any material thing.
Jo is the outspoken, caring, mischivous and tempered child in the house. She is the second oldest and feels she is the man of the house since her father is away. Jo seems the most daring sister, but her boldness sometimes gets her in trouble. Jo is the first of the girls to meet Laurie. She sees him in his window and says " that boy is suffering from society and fun," and marches straight over to his house to introduce herself. Jo and Laurie become the best of friends.

She is a spit fire who breaks out a temper over the slightest things.Her mother also has that in common with her, but has better control over it. She is trying to teach her to control it, and a good lesson is learned when Amy falls into the frozen lake after Jo had a fight with her. Her mothers words of advice are, " Watch and pray, dear, never get tired of trying, and never think it is impossible to conquear your fault." Jo tries hard to control her temper and does better as the book goes along.
